SE Guidance Product Core Introduction
DigiTrak® Eclipse® Underground Positioning System (iGPS®) is an innovative tracking system for the horizontal directional drilling industry. It is the first to display the drill bit position and positioning points in a real-time bird’s-eye view.
This original tracking system leads other advanced positioning systems in many aspects. Firstly, the operating frequency used by the system is the one with the least interference selected after surveying different locations. Secondly, the Eclipse® dual-frequency sensor has a lower frequency, enabling more accurate positioning in areas with active and passive interference, and a larger depth measurement range. Thirdly, the receiver can provide three-dimensional left/right and up/down remote operation. In addition, the receiver can display 3D left/right and up/down operation data on the remote display screen at the drill bit position.
The graphic format is very simple, and you do not need to interpret bar graphs or arrows. Easy-to-understand menus guide the operator to select functions such as calibration, self-test, ultrasonic setting, depth positioning mode, etc.

ore Positioning Method – target-in-the-box®
When positioning with the Eclipse® system, you will immediately find that the method of finding the positioning point and the exact position of the drill bit is actually straightforward. There is a box in the center of the display window, representing the receiver. To find the positioning point, you only need to move the receiver to move the target representing the positioning point to the center of the box. That’s how simple the target-in-the-box® positioning method is. You can walk directly to the positioning point from any direction, and once the target is in the box, you are standing on the positioning point.
Like the Mark series receivers, the DigiTrak® Eclipse® receiver allows you to know the left/right direction and the predicted depth of the drill bit when you find the forward positioning point without stopping the drilling work. Standing in front of the drill bit, you are actually using the lookahead® positioning method to drive or control the drill bit.
Remote Operation AdvantagesDigiTrak® Eclipse®
The DigiTrak® Eclipse® system makes remote operation easier and more accurate because you can load your target depth into the program. The actual depth is displayed during remote operation. The display of the target and crosshairs can help the operator achieve accurate depth and left/right positioning of the drill bit.
Accessories and Compatibility
The Eclipse® receiver uses the standard DigiTrak® Ni-Cd battery pack and charger. The Eclipse® sensor is the same size as the DigiTrak® sensor of the Mark series, so no drill bit replacement is required when using the Eclipse® system.
DigiTrak® Eclipse® iGPS® Receiver Features
The unique antenna structure enables the Eclipse® system to provide accurate operation guidance data and realize advanced functions such as left/right and up/down remote operation guidance.
Real-time display of vertical depth, predicted depth and inclined depth.
The dual-frequency sensor has a larger depth measurement range and is more suitable for use in areas with active and passive interference.
Multiple advanced drilling features, including offset guidance used when walking and positioning above the drill bit is impossible due to signal interference or obstacles.
Simplified remote operation function.
The patented calibration procedure provides optimal accuracy and the ability to recalibrate during drilling.
The display screen can show the real-time movement of the sensor for “dynamic” positioning.
Target depth and direction can be loaded into the program.
The DigiTrak® Eclipse® system is most suitable for use in highly interfered areas.
DigiTrak® Eclipse® iGPS® R Remote Display
The DigiTrak® Eclipse® remote display features a large graphic display and direct operation indicators. The information displayed on the remote display is the same as that on the receiver, and information can be obtained from the receiver at a distance of 2000 feet (610 meters) from the remote display.
The information displayed on the remote display includes dip angle, facing angle, sensor temperature and battery status. Like the DigiTrak® and Eclipse® receivers, the remote display is powered by DigiTrak® Ni-Cd batteries.
The Eclipse® remote display shows graphics to indicate the left/right and up/down deviation from the predetermined target direction. Target depth and direction can be loaded into the program of the Eclipse® remote display to guide the drill operator in the correct direction. This feature is suitable for highways, small rivers and railway crossings.
